What is the Disney Resort Line?
The Disney Resort Line is a monorail within Tokyo Disney Resort.
The nearest station to Tokyo Disney Resort is JR Maihama Station. The Disney Resort Line connects JR Maihama Station to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea and runs around Tokyo Disney Resort.
Also, Bayside Station, located between Tokyo Disneyland Station and Tokyo DisneySea Station, is the closest station to the official hotels.
The Disney Resort Line is an effective way to get around Tokyo Disney Resort because it looks close, but it’s a surprisingly long distance.
Disney Resort Line Route Map
The Disney Resort Line is a circular line like the Yamanote Line.
The monorail surrounds Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. The line stops at four stations and takes about 13 minutes per lap.
How to get to Tokyo DisneySea
Resort Line only goes in one direction, so you have to go around to go to the next station.
Disney Resort Line Station
There are four stations on the Disney Resort Line. The facilities close to each station are as follows.
Station | Facility |
---|---|
Resort Gateway Station | JR Maihama Station Tokyo Disney Resort Welcome Center Ikspiari Disney Ambassador Hotel Bon Voyage Maihama Amphitheater |
Tokyo Disneyland Station | Tokyo Disneyland Tokyo Disneyland Hotel |
Bayside Station | Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel First Resort Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel Okura Tokyo Bay Hilton Tokyo Bay Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel (scheduled to open in 2021) |
Tokyo Disney Sea station | Tokyo DisneySea Tokyo DisneySea Hotel Miracosta |
The Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel, scheduled to open this year, is right in front of Bayside Station.
I expect the closest station to Fantasy Springs (opening in 2023) will be Bayside Station.
Disney Resort Line Timetable
The Disney Resort Line runs every 4 to 13 minutes. As long as you are on the platform, the trains will come one after another, which is very convenient.
The first and last trains at each station are as follows.
Station | First Train | Last Train |
---|---|---|
Resort Gateway Station | 6:31 a.m. | 11:30 p.m. |
Tokyo Disneyland Station | 6:33 a.m. | 11:32 p.m. |
Bayside Station | 6:36 a.m. | 11:34 p.m. |
Tokyo Disney Sea Station | 6:40 a.m. | 11:39 p.m. |
This information is from June 2021, so please check the timetable for the latest.
People tend to think that the resort line is one of the attractions, but it is a public transportation system under Japanese law. Therefore, the first and last departure times are not related to the opening and closing times of the parks. If the park is closed, the monorail is still in operation.
Disney Resort Line Price
The following types of tickets are available for the Resort Line.
- Single Ticket
- Day Passes
- 1-Day Pass
- 2-Day Pass
- 3-Day Pass
- 4-Day Pass
- Coupon Tickets(11-ticket set)
Children up to elementary school are half the price of adults.
A single ticket allows you to ride the entire resort line. The Day Pass allows you to get on and off freely.
If you ride the Resort Line more than three times in one day, the Day Pass ticket is more economical than a regular ticket.
If you make a reservation at a Disneyland Hotel (other than the Celebration Hotel) through the official website, you can receive a Day Pass at the Welcome Center or front desk when you check-in. Make sure you don’t buy your ticket before you check-in.
The Day Pass has a limited-period design, so check the website for details. Some Resort Line fans even collect the tickets.
The Resort Line also offers other tickets, such as coupon tickets, commuter tickets, and group tickets, but I won’t go into those here. If you are interested, see the website.
How to buy a ticket
You can buy tickets for the Disney Resort Line from the ticket machines at each station.
You’ll find the ticket machines in front of the ticket gates. The machines are multilingual, so don’t worry if you can’t read Japanese.
The design of the ticket you can buy depends on the ticket vending machine, so please check the display carefully.
There are cast members near the ticket machines, so please ask them if you have any questions.
If you live in Japan and have electronic money such as SUICA, you don’t need to buy a regular ticket from a ticket vending machine. But you do need to buy a free ticket from a ticket machine.
How to ride the Disney Resort Line
After buying a ticket and passing through the ticket gate, go to the platform to board the Resort Line.
The ticket you bought at the ticket machine is magnetic, so put it in the slot of the ticket gate. The touch panel of the ticket gate is for IC cards.
How to enjoy the Disney Resort Line
The Disney Resort Line is a public transportation system, but it’s not a means to an end. You can enjoy it as if it were one of the attractions in the park.
The Resort Line is automated, and there is no driver. So if you get in the front seat of the monorail, you can feel like you are the driver. My child is too, but your child would be happy to be a driver.
To get a front-row seat on the monorail, you need to ride in the first car. If you’re at the Resort Gateway Station, stay at the end of the platform on the Tokyo Disneyland side, and the first car will come.
But the front seats are trendy, and sometimes there are already guests sitting there. In that case, if you buy a free ticket, you can do as many laps as you want and wait for a seat to become available. I’ve never been able to sit in the front seat from the beginning, but after one lap of the resort line, most of the guests get off, and that’s when I get a front-row seat.
The new model (Type C) of the Disney Resort Line
The new model (Type C) of the Resort Line debuted in July 2020.
- The waves on the car’s body are now two different colors, so it looks like the waves are shaking.
- The shape of the chair has changed, so the cabin is more spacious.
- The windows are more oversized, so it’s easier to see the scenery outside.
- There are now three different heights for the straps, so it’s easier to reach.
- The barrier-free space makes it easier for strollers and wheelchairs to get in.
- LED and indirect lighting for a warmer atmosphere.
For more details, please see the official video.
Colors of the Disney Resort Line
The Resort Line is currently available in the following five colors.
- Yellow(Type-C, from July 2020)
- Pink(Type-C, from January 2021)
- Blue
- Purple
- Green
The pink monorail is the newest, and it debuted in January 2021. It’s fun to wait at the platform and see what color the train will come in.
Duffy Liner (a limited-time Disney Resort Line)
During special events for Duffy, the Tokyo DisneySea bear, you can ride the Resort Line with the Duffy & Friends design on the body.
ShellieMay in the Duffy Liner Geratoni in the Duffy Liner
You can see Duffy & Friends inside and outside the train, so it’s adorable. Each car has a different character that you can see, so you’ll want to ride in the back of the train and the front!
Riding the Duffy liner will make you feel excited and happy even before you enter the park. However, please note that not all of the trains will be Duffy Liner. If you want to ride the Duffy Liner, you’d better have plenty of time.
If you’re interested in trains, you can also check out the previous Limited-Period Wrapped Disney Resort Lines.
Disney Resort Line’s Souvenir Medal
One of the features of Tokyo Disney Resort is that you can buy souvenir medals.
You can find souvenir medals at the parks, hotels, and Resort Line stations. There are Medallion Maker near the ticket gates of the Resort Line, so check them out.
If you want to make a souvenir medal, you’ll need to have 100 yen coins ready. At another theme park in Japan, they cost 300 yen, so souvenir medals at Tokyo Disney Resort are inexpensive.
