Fantasy Springs, the eighth theme port at Tokyo DisneySea, will open in 2023. In this extension, Tokyo Disney Sea will expand its area by 30%, and many new attractions, restaurants, and a Disney hotel will open.

This project’s total investment is $2.5 billion, which is more than three times the investment for New Fantasyland that opened in Tokyo Disneyland in 2020(Investment to New Fantasyland was $750 million). This is the largest investment ever made in an existing facility in Tokyo Disney Resort.

Soaring: Fantastic Flight in Tokyo Disney Sea

The newest facility at Tokyo Disney Sea is Soaring: Fantastic Flight, which opened in 2019, and it will be the first time in four years that Tokyo Disney Sea will add a new facility. I can’t wait for the opening of Fantasy Springs! Here is an outline of the official announcement. If there is any additional information, I will share it again on my blog.

What is Fantasy Springs?

Aquasphere and Balloons at Tokyo Disney Sea

The concept of Tokyo Disney Sea is the “Sea of Adventure and Imagination,” and its area is split into seven theme ports. The existing theme ports are Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, Port Discovery, Lost River Delta, Arabian Coast, Mermaid Lagoon, and Mysterious Island. Fantasy Springs will be the eighth theme port in Tokyo Disney Sea.

When will Fantasy Spring Open?

In the initial announcement, the opening date was 2022, but it has been postponed to 2023. The year 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of Tokyo Disney Resort.

What is the Theme of Fantasy Springs?

Official Announcement, May 21, 2019.

The concept of Fantasy Springs is “A Magical Spring Leading to the World of Disney Fantasy.” Fantasy Springs includes three areas, each inspired by a Disney animation.

  • Frozen
  • Tangled
  • Peter Pan

They are movies that are familiar to all generations. Peter Pan already has an attraction at Tokyo Disneyland, and it is always a top-rated attraction. Frozen and Tangled related facilities will be installed for the first time at Tokyo Disney Resort.

Where is Fantasy Springs?

Some additions to the official announcement on May 21, 2019.

Fantasy Springs will be at the furthest point from the current Tokyo Disney Sea entrance. To be more precise, Fantasy Springs’ gate will be located between Raging Spirits and Jasmine’s Flying Carpets.

The new Disney hotel will stand right in front of Bayside station, and many rumors say that a new entrance will open near the bayside station, which goes through the hotel to Tokyo Disney Sea. I find these rumors quite convincing, considering that the new area will be a one-station walk from the current entrance at Tokyo Disney Sea station.

Details of Fantasy Springs

  • Number of facilities: four attractions, three food facilities, one shop, one hotel
  • Development area: about 140,000 m 2 (about 100,000 m 2 for the theme park and hotel)
  • Completion of project: in the fiscal year 2023
  • Investment amount: about $2.5 billion

“Frozen” Area

The Flozen Area at Fantasy Springs in Tokyo Disney Sea.

This area replicates Arendelle, where Queen Elsa has embraced her magical power to control snow and ice. She has since opened up the castle gates so that Guests can freely visit the Kingdom. The Frozen area will have Arendelle Castle, the streets of Arendelle, and an ice castle that Elsa built with her magic.

A restaurant will be constructed inside Arendelle Castle at the foot of the beautiful snow-capped mountain. This is the first time for Tokyo Disney Resort to have a restaurant inside the castle. I’m sure it will be a fashionable spot. The attraction takes you on a boat ride to the sisters’ heartfelt journey while enjoying iconic songs from the film and encountering surprising thrills. This ride will be a Tokyo Disney Resort original and different Frozen Ever After in Epcot.

“Tangled” Area

There will be Rapunzel’s tower rising above in a charming forest.

The area will include an attraction that follows Rapunzel to the lantern festival and a restaurant inspired by the hideout of the humorous band of thugs who appeared in the film.

In the ride, “Best Day Ever,” guests will board gondolas for a romantic boat tour where Rapunzel journeys with Flynn to the lantern festival. Countless flickering lanterns illuminate the attraction’s climactic scene while Rapunzel and Flynn sing an iconic song from the film, building to an unforgettable finale. As I mentioned in my previous article on Dreaming Up, I particularly like the music, I see the Light, from Tangled, so I’m looking forward to this attraction.

“Peter Pan” Area

Home to two attractions and a restaurant, the Never Land area will feature landmarks that make that fantastical world so memorable, including verdant mountains, Captain Hook’s pirate ship, and Skull Rock.

One attraction will fly guests over Never Land’s jungles into a battle with Captain Hook and his crews. Guests will join Peter Pan in an adventure to rescue Wendy’s younger brother, John, who has been kidnapped by Captain Hook and his pirates. Guests board boats and follow the Lost Boys down a river. When Tinker Bell sprinkles the boats with pixie dust, Guests find themselves flying through Never Land on an unprecedented adventure that features epochal music and dynamic 3D imagery with the characters from the story.

The second attraction will highlight the stories from the Tinkerbell animations series. Guests will dive into the big world of Pixie Hollow, where Tinker Bell and her fairy friends live and work.

The restaurant is inspired by the Lost Boys and their hideout, providing lovely views of Never Land that guests can enjoy while dining.

The Finest Hotels in the Park

Fantasy Springs's Hotel in Tokyo Disney Sea

Tokyo Disney Sea has the Hotel MiraCosta in the park, but there will be another Disney Hotel.

  • Guest Rooms: 475 (Past Largest)
  • Facilities: Two restaurants, One lobby lounge, One parking area, Other facilities

The hotel will rise above and around the magical springs that serve as the core of the new themed port’s story. Park-facing rooms will provide beautiful views of the port’s majestic landscape, affording guests a magical experience available only at this hotel. The Disney hotel will offer 475 deluxe-type and luxury-type guest rooms, with the latter providing the finest accommodations in Tokyo Disney Resort.

A merchandise shop that helps share the magical springs’ story will be found on the hotel’s first floor, facing the park.

According to the concept art, the night view of Fantasy Springs is also impressive, so it would be great to see this view from the hotel.

Disney Characters Hidden in Concept Arts

As you may have already noticed, many characters are hidden in the concept arts. I’m not sure about Ariel though. Please let me know in the comments, if you realize who she is.

Summary

“Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

This is the word spoken by Walt Disney, and his spirit also lives in Tokyo Disney Resort.

Tokyo Disneyland’s New Fantasyland opened in 2020. Three years from then, Fantasy Springs will open in Tokyo Disney Sea. It looks like Tokyo Disney Resort is going to change a lot in just three years. It’s great to live in such a time. Fantasy Springs will be something that can only be experienced at Tokyo Disney Sea. I’m sure 2023 will come before we know it, but I’ll share it on my blog when I get to experience it. Thank you for reading to the end.
