I went to see the 2023 Tokyo performance of Disney on Ice.
Tokyo has been extremely hot every day, but it was great to see my favorite Disney character shows in a cool place!
In this article, I will share with you my review of Disney On Ice’s 100 Years of Wonder.
Disney on Ice Japan Performance Schedule in 2023
Disney on Ice will be held throughout Japan from early July to the end of September!
July 6-9: | Akita | July 14-17: | Tokyo |
July 21-31: | Nagoya | August 5-13: | Osaka |
August 17-21: | Yokohama | August 25-27: | Saga |
September 1-3: | Kobe | September 8-10: | Hiroshima |
September 16-18: | Saitama | September 22-24: | Mie |
This is great for those who live in rural areas and have difficulty visiting the Disney Resort in Maihama, Chiba Prefecture.
Movies appearing at Disney on Ice in 2023
The following movie productions will appear in the ice show for Disney’s 100th anniversary in 2023.
- Mary Poppins
- Mr. Incredible
- Moana
- Frozen
- The Lion King
- Toy Story
- Aladdin
- Disney Princesses
The last one, Disney Princesses, is not a movie, but it was a big hit with the little ones, as was my daughter.
Since the theme of the show was going on a journey, it was the perfect movie choice.
Disney on Ice Ariake Arena Seating Locations
The seating locations at Ariake Arena seem to change every year, but in 2023 the seating arrangements were as shown in the photo.
We were in Block C in front of the stage, which is the farthest distance from the stage to the front row seats.
So, you may be able to see more powerful skating in the side blocks.
Characters usually strike a decisive pose facing the front of the stage, so the front block offers the best shutterbug opportunities.
Photography at Disney on Ice
Both photography and video are allowed at Disney on Ice.
However, photography with a tripod is not allowed.
Photography is also not allowed on the stairs or in the aisles.
Merchandise for Disney on Ice
At the Disney on Ice venue, merchandise will be available for purchase approximately one hour before the performance begins.
There are stores inside and outside the building.
The store inside the building is larger and has a wider selection.
You can purchase goods not only before the show but also during breaks and after the show.
Please note that shave ice used to be refillable, but there will be no refills in 2023.
What to bring for Disney on Ice
The venue is very air-conditioned, so you may want to bring a blanket for those who are cold or for small children.
However, it was extremely hot on the day of the Tokyo performance, so it was just fine.
Also, depending on your seat, opera glasses might be useful.
Thoughts on the 2023 Disney on Ice “100 Years of Wonder”
The theme for the 2023 Disney on Ice is “100 Years of Wonder”.
I bought my ticket in April and have been looking forward to the show date for a long time.
It was my first time seeing an ice show and I was thrilled to see the skating up close and personal.
Our seats were in the 10th row of Block C in front of the stage, so we had a very good view.
When Mary Poppins first appeared on stage, I was amazed when she opened her umbrella and flew through the air.
I thought I had come to see skating, but it was now a circus.
I liked Moana’s too.
There was a projection mapping show that started last time.
When you listen to “How Far I’ll Go,” the skating rink looks like the ocean.
Frozen and the ice show go together perfectly.
I was thrilled to see Elsa skating and the castle standing behind her.
The Lion King was lively and fun with many different animals.
Most of the performances had Japanese lyrics, but only The Lion King was in English.
I was surprised that the video was a live-action version of Aladdin.
The scene of Jasmine flying through the air while “Speechless” played was very romantic.
Even though it was an ice show, it was like a musical and a circus.
It was indeed amazing how the skating rink looked like both the sea and the sky depending on the performance.
Seeing Disney on Ice made me want to see Disney movies again.
Summary
I have reviewed the Disney on Ice 100 Years of Wonder.
If you like Disney movies, this is a very enjoyable show.
Speaking of Disney musicals outside of the parks, I would also recommend Shiki Theater Company.
I am going to see “Frozen” again next month.
Thanks for reading to the end.
